Allow me to introduce myself...

With more than 25 years experience, I am considered a leading player within the male hairdressing industry. And my work has allowed me to travel the world sharing my passion as a former Director of the British Barbers’ Association. My unique stance incorporates traditional barbering with a modern flair, thus ensuring a constant delivery of fresh and innovative ideas to men’s hairdressing.  My distinctive approach to male grooming is evident in examples of my work as Creative Director at The Refinery and Gentlemen’s Tonic in Mayfair, as well as the Harrods Barbershop in Knightsbridge.

My professional achievements have been endorsed by numerous awards and accolades, including a Master Craftsman award which I received at the House of Commons. As a finalist, nominated for Men’s category of ‘The British Hairdressing Awards’ and three times winner of ‘Black Hair & Beauty Barber of the Year’,  I have been granted exclusive entry to the ‘Barbering Hall Of Fame’. I am proud to also be named amongst the first industry icons to collect the honorary PHAB (Performance in Hair and Beauty) Standard award. In 2014, I was bestowed the prestigious honour of being elected as Barbering Ambassador for the Hairdressing Council. And I picked up a new award called the Most Wanted Male Grooming Specialist in 2016.

From Hackney To Harrods

BUT THIS IS NOT WHERE MY STORY BEGINS...

My story starts in Hackney, East London. Back then, Hackney wasn’t the “up-and-coming” district that it is now. In fact, the area that this tale begins was infamously nicknamed “murder mile”. So there I was in my parents house using the scissors as a tool for cutting hair – perhaps a controversial choice of weapon and use for this area. The streets were dangerous, and I was on a mission to escape it. Trust me when I say this – it was life or death. And life was hair.

I realised I had a fascination with hair. That fascination quickly turned into an obsession – an obsession which changed my life forever. I soon joined a barbershop in Tottenham, where I worked from dusk ‘til dawn for an endless stream of clients (I call it the Lucozade years because I lived off the energy drink to get me through). Now, don’t get me wrong, I loved cutting hair there but I felt like the chair was holding me back – I had so much more to give. Seeking bigger opportunities, I studied hairdressing, headed to London’s West End, and over a period of 10 years, I worked my way to the top, working for some of the most exclusive male grooming emporiums in London including Harrods. By this time, I was starting to win awards, but I still didn’t feel like I was fulfilling my potential, there I go again feeling frustration. That frustration led me to find solutions which changed the game for me; strategies that I would love to share with you in my programmes as your coach and mentor. I guarantee that what I've learnt can make a difference to your profile, your career and your financial future.

Back to the story...

So, what do you do when you are Creative Director in one of the most prestigious barbershops in London? Well, I kept striving until I reached the top of the hair industry, working at an entirely different level. You see, when I began my journey in this industry, barbers were not seen as session stylists. I wanted to break the mould. I wanted to prove to myself that I could shape a career which was completely unique to this industry and inspire the next generation of Master Craftsman.

25 years ago, when I started barbering, all my hair heroes were hairdressers. Hairdressers travelled the world, worked in fashion – it was real sexy to be a hairdresser. Perhaps not so much a barber; a perception I wanted to change. I wanted to be pioneering that change – to live and breathe its evolution.

I have worked as a creative for many companies and organisations. My first post was with WAHL UK. I was one of the very first members of the WAHL artistic team. I moved on to become the creative director for BaByliss Pro Forfex both of which afforded me the opportunity to travel the world sharing my knowledge. Working in India, at the Indian School of Hairdressing, in Mumbai, I shaped the new barbering programme in conjunction with The British Barbers’ Association, where my responsibilities included working as the Creative Director of the Association. With this prestigious association, I’ve toured North America and Canada, teaching in Vancouver, Toronto, New York and Miami, spreading the gospel of great British barbering whist raising the standards globally.

I am a coach by choice after stepping down from being a BBA Director. I am focused on helping hair professionals build careers of their dreams. The Foss Academy

Over the past 20 years I have worked in London’s West End as a Head Stylist at some of the most prestigious male grooming emporiums in the UK. During this time, my own philosophy on the world of elite grooming and ‘high fashion’ men’s hairdressing has greatly evolved. The Foss Academy was borne out of my passion to challenge conventional barbering education, cultivate stylists to offer elite services, and utilise revolutionary training methods to push creative boundaries.

The Foss Academy online school takes my education philosophy a step further and provides an opportunity to share my knowledge and experience to a broader range of hairdressing professionals. Those accessing the portal can find detailed video contents on elite male grooming as well as hairstyling techniques. Topics include: luxury wet shaving, beard trimming, facial massage techniques, threading, waxing facial hair as well as ‘how-to’ guides to create both current and classic hairstyles.
